You²

How You² A High Velocity Formula for Multiplying Your Personal Effectiveness in Quantum Leaps challenged my traditional views of success.

💡 Key Insights

I came across this book thanks to Timothy Armoo. He recommended it as one of the best books he had read to help with his development.

I have now read this book twice in the space of a year.

Although I wish I had come across it sooner, it feels right to give a breakdown now.

You² is about finding personal achievement and self directness change in giant leaps.

Although the book lacks personal steps to take, it’s a great reminder that over-planning can paralyse your progress.

✍🏾 Top Quotes from the book:

  • Unless you allow yourself to make mistakes, to fail, you will never have the opportunity to test the limits of what you truly are capable of accomplishing.

  • You must loosen the limits on your thinking, and give yourself permission to pursue what you want most. The climate is right for a quantum leap only when you are passionately drawn to a particular goal.

  • Ask… seek…knock… and the dream shall be yours.

  • Look inside at what pulls at your consciousness, for there you’ll find direction.

📖 Personal Summary:

Sometimes you need to jump!

Occasions will pop up where you'll need to give more of yourself than before. In these moments, you’ll either rise to the calling or fall to the doubts you have.

When you decide to leap into a new version of yourself, many other areas in your life will rally to your support.

Pritchett encourages the following:

  • Taking bold actions and that the key to success lies in abandoning the comfort zone.

  • Doing the opposite of what you’ve always done can be the breakthrough strategy.

  • Take the leap without having everything planned out.

  • Make decisions and act on them because action generates momentum.

American entrepreneur, author, and motivational speaker Jim Rohn has a famous quote where he states: “Life is like the seasons. There will always be winters, which are followed by springs, and after that summer, and fall, and so the cycle continues on and on through history. We must learn to handle the winter, take advantage during the spring, nourish and defend ourselves during the summers, and accept the fall." Jim calls this the four major lessons in life to learn.

I recall three moments in my life that took me into uncharted territory and resulted in leaps of progress. I'll share these personal anecdotes and explain how these apply to the You² book too.

  1. At 20, I suffered an injury while playing American Football. This injury put me on the sideline for close to a year. Going through recovery meant a lot of time in solitude but also being unable to perform simple tasks. Cooking, cleaning, dressing myself – you get the picture. I was forced to be patient, think about my actions and understand what I wanted to become in the long run. Those who know me can attest to the difference between the person I was before and after.

  2. For many, the COVID-19 pandemic caused a lot of changes to their lives. I found myself questioning what I wanted to do with my time more than ever. At this point, I was working my second "professional job". While I was jealous of friends who were excused of work, It didn’t take long to come up with a plan. I was going to start a business. This period between March 2020 to December 2020 is when I mentally birthed Lweno & Co.

  3. 2023 has to be one of the hardest yet rewarding and eye-opening years in my short time on earth so far. I went from having a secure job to being unemployed to having a business with paid clients. I then suffered injuries in a short time, which made everything else seem impossible. These uncertainties were later overshadowed by opportunities I had only dreamed about.

All these moments required a different version of me. Through each challenge, I stepped up to the plate and continued batting until I hit a strike.

When the moment finally arrived... I was ready.

I had been preparing for this. My You² moment had arrived.

I skipped levels every time a life challenge presented itself. I was willing to tolerate confusion and chaos to later shape where I wanted to be.

My big focus was on landing, taking the next step and continuing to move forward.

While You² might not be a book for everyone, it reminds me to fall in love with who I'm becoming. Each time my back is against the wall, my desires carry me into the next leap, the next version of who I'm becoming.
